Behind the Brand - Nurture Breastfeeding
I am an experienced midwife and lactation consultant offering individualised, expert breastfeeding support in the comfort of your own home. I am passionate about helping mothers become more knowledgeable and confident about breastfeeding and together we explore any concerns or challenges, identify and develop the skills needed to overcome those and ultimately discover the empowering, joyful experience of feeding and nurturing your baby.
Exhibitor – Mo Brownlee
Business Name – Nurture Breastfeeding
Position in the Business – Owner / Consultant
How did the business start?
I worked for 6 years as part of a small team of specialist midwives in the Lothian Breastfeeding Clinics where it was my privilege to assist mothers experiencing simple to complex breastfeeding challenges; supporting, guiding and empowering them to achieve their breastfeeding goals. I then chose to deepen my knowledge on the theory and practice of breastfeeding, studying and ultimately qualifying as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and it was a natural progression to go on to develop my private practice.
Why did you start the business?
As a mother of three, including twins, I breastfed my children and I know the joy that breastfeeding brings. I also understand the challenges that can be encountered along the way. I am passionate about helping mothers to find the right path for them and their family. If you request my help you will be assured of knowledgeable, experienced and empathic breastfeeding support.
What is your favourite part of the business?
Being welcomed into a mother's home and family life and very quickly building a relationship of mutual trust and respect. I often arrive at a time of distress and there is no better feeling in the world than seeing a smile on that mother's face and confidence in her eyes as you leave. It truly is a privileged role to have.
What is your funniest moment in the business?
Most of my funniest moment have been generated by my sat nav sending me to some very strange destinations as I explore unfamiliar areas of the country en route to new mums. It is never a dull drive!
How do you spend your time away from work?
Outside of work I try to keep fit by swimming and reluctant gym sessions, I enjoy cooking and love the cinema and the theatre, and I can get lost for far too many hours in a good book.
