The Daisy Foundation Edinburgh provides continuous perinatal support to women through their pregnancy and into the postnatal period, offering antenatal courses, workshops and weekly classes for mum and baby. One of the key things about joining Daisy classes is the friendship and community that it offers expectant and new mums which is developed on so many levels.
Exhibitor – Kathryn Lawrence
Business Name – The Daisy Foundation Edinburgh
Position in the Business – Owner / Perinatal Educator
How did the business start?
I started to train as a perinatal educator following the birth of my youngest (who is now almost 6!), and the more I learned and studied, the more my passion grew into a purpose to support women and help them have a positive journey into motherhood.
Why did you join The Daisy Foundation?
I first heard about the Daisy Foundation from a friend who raved to me about how amazing the classes were that she was attending locally to her and how much she had got from them on so many levels.... I really wished while I was pregnant that there were local Daisy classes that I could join. And the more I learned the more I was drawn to study with The Daisy Foundation as their core values of confidence, informed choice and community really resonated with me as they were all things that I knew from my own experience that were so important.
What is your favourite part of the business?
My favourite things about being a Daisy Teacher are the birth stories that arrive in to my inbox every week, each one is so special and I'm always so honoured to receive them, that and getting to see the amazing friendships that are formed week on week - between pregnancy and postnatal classes some groups are with me for almost a year. And I'm so lucky that so many groups stay in touch in our online daisy community, I get to see a little snapshot of how everyone is getting on and seeing families grow, the daisy babies from when I first started teaching are off to school this August!
Do you have a memorable moment in the business?
There are lots of wonderful memorable moments at baby classes - first rolls, giggles, sitting up which are always so amazing to see. A recent special moment for me was being shortlisted as a finalist for Antenatal Teacher of the Year at this year's Mama Conference Awards.
How do you spend your time away from work?
As a mum of two active little ones outside of work my favourite thing is family time. We enjoy being outdoors, at the beach, walking, swimming and camping.
