How did the business start?
After having my second child I decided to take a bit of time away from the world of work. It was during this time that I attended various workshops and rediscovered my love of sewing. I was encouraged to follow my passion, and after making things for friends and family, Wee Susie Stitches evolved from there.
What is your favourite part of the business?
Receiving a few items of cherished clothing and transforming them into a treasured keepsake. I love seeing the reaction of my customer when they see the finished keepsake that brings back so many memories.
What is your fondest memory since starting the business?
My first patchwork memory quilt. It was for a good friend and I remember the realisation that there would be no room for error with this quilt. I couldn’t just cut another piece like I’d normally do with generic fabric and making the first cut into such a treasured item of clothing is still quite daunting. However, when I gave my friend the completed quilt and she started looking at all the different pieces of clothes, remembering when her boys had worn them it was quite emotional and something I will always remember.
How do you spend your time away from work?
I enjoy spending time with my children and husband - usually watching one of them competing in one of their sporting activities. When time allows, we enjoy taking trips as a family and also with friends where I get inspiration for new designs. The most recent being another trip to London and discovering the fabulous tiles of the underground.
